School-Based Programs

afterschool programs

In partnership with L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs, TFP provides free programs or “clubs” at four public schools in Los Angeles, California.

Afterschool Clubs: Students who attend Tools for Peace middle and high school clubs learn TFP’s mindfulness-based social emotional learning curriculum. Students have the opportunity to earn a Compassionate Leader Certificate, which includes a full scholarship to our annual summer teen camp. Click here for a sample schedule.

Academic Support & Teams: We also collaborate with other clubs and teams at L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs, such as Homework Club, sports teams etc., leading TFP guest workshops to help with team building and academic success.

Parent Workshops: TFP presents bilingual workshops for L.A.C.E.R. parents who are interested in practicing compassion and kindness towards themselves and their families.

in-school programs

Since 2017 Tools for Peace (TFP) has partnered with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), developing a mindfulness-based social emotional learning curriculum for elementary schools. Together we are implementing our curriculum at Dr. Sammy Lee Elementary School during class-time. CHLA has conducted a study to measure the impact of our curriculum on participants’ social and emotional development. TFP also provides visiting workshops for the pediatric staff at CHLA.

“The middle school and high school years can make students feel like all of their value is external. This curriculum helps them go inside and discover their inherent worth.”

— Melissa Ruiz, Director of Operations & Programming
