“Tools for Peace was absolutely transformational for the students in my class.By the end of the semester, they were 180° from where they had started, and I truly believe that it was the first time many of those students had ever felt like they could be 'good' and 'successful.'”
– Judith Quinones, Monroe High School, Los Angeles, CA
Tools For Schools is an opportunity for educators, schools and organizations to use the Tools For Peace curriculum within their existing 8th-12th grade framework.
The parents, teachers and administrators of students who participated in our 2009 Teen Camp and Tools For Schools programs noticed a significant impact on student behavior, including increased class cooperation and harmony, improved ability to concentrate, increased class participation, increased self‐motivation and confidence, and decreased violence and aggression.
The lessons of the Personal Mandala Workbook, align with framework-based instruction for Visual Arts, Health, Service Learning, History and Social Science, and English Language Arts. Schools or teachers are also encouraged to request funding from Tools For Peace to enable special projects (fieldtrips, community engagement, etc) relevant to the workbook activities.
To implement the Tools For Schools program, teachers are asked to attend the Summer Teen Camp—held annually during the first week of August at our Ari Bhöd camp facility—with 1 or more of their students. Teacher and student scholarships are available. Receiving this in-depth experience with Tools For Peace is essential to effectively implement the curriculum in school.
